Moving a 5-bedroom house in Melbourne: what to plan

Plan a larger Melbourne house move with a complete inventory, the right truck capacity, access details and a realistic moving-day schedule.

A 5-bedroom move is usually a project rather than a simple hourly booking. The house may also include a garage, shed, outdoor furniture, storage or bulky appliances. Planning the whole load early helps avoid a second trip and last-minute equipment problems.

Bedroom count is only the starting point

Two 5-bedroom homes can need very different moving plans. One may be lightly furnished, while another has a full garage, large outdoor setting, workshop, heavy wardrobes and several hundred boxes. List what is actually moving instead of relying on the bedroom count alone.

Build the inventory room by room

Photos or a slow video walkthrough are useful when the load is large. They help the moving team understand volume, access and the position of bulky pieces before confirming the plan.

  • Beds, mattresses, wardrobes, desks and drawers in every bedroom.
  • Sofas, dining furniture, entertainment units and appliances in living areas.
  • Garage, shed, balcony, outdoor furniture and storage-cage contents.
  • Boxes, books, tools, plants and awkward items that are easy to overlook.
  • Pianos, marble, safes, glass and other specialist pieces.

Plan capacity and crew together

A 10T truck and three-person crew can be a better fit for a fuller home because the extra capacity and handling support can reduce loading time. If the move requires more than a 10T truck, call NextWave for a personalised quote so the vehicle plan can be assessed properly.

Check access at both properties

  • Measure doorways and identify narrow turns for large furniture.
  • Confirm whether a lift or loading bay needs a booking.
  • Arrange legal parking close to the entrance where possible.
  • Tell the movers about stairs, long carries, steep driveways or restricted access.
  • Confirm key collection, settlement timing and delivery access before the day.

Make the home move-ready

Finish packing, label each box with its destination room and clear the walkways before the crew arrives. Keep documents, medication, valuables, chargers and first-night essentials with you. A prepared property allows the crew to focus on protecting, carrying and loading the household efficiently.

What to include in your quote request

  • The pickup and delivery locations and your preferred date.
  • A room-by-room inventory, including garage and outdoor contents.
  • Photos of access paths and any large, fragile or heavy items.
  • Whether the move is local, regional or interstate.
  • Any packing, disassembly, storage or disposal support you may need.
